The Three Muses Challenge

WHITE ON WHITE

You say I am discontented, proud and ambitious; that's true, and I'm glad of it. I am discontented, because I can't help feeling that there is a better sort of life than this dull one made up of everlasting work, with no object but money. I can't starve my soul for the sake of my body, and I mean to get out of the treadmill if I can. I'm proud, as you call it, because I hate dependence where there isn't any love to make it bearable.... I'm willing to work, but I want work that I can put my heart into, and feel that it does me good, no matter how hard it is. I only ask for a chance to be a useful, happy woman, and I don't think that is a bad ambition. Even if I only do what my dear mother did, earn my living honestly and happily, and leave a beautiful example behind me, to help one other woman as hers helps me, I shall be satisfied.

Telephone Booth

Patti gave us another fun challenge this week that reminded me of so much of the streets of London where there is a shiny, red phone booth on every corner!!  So thinking of England,  I began gathering my images together to start working on my entry.

I started working and soon the words to a familiar tune began to go through my head! Oh, what was it? I knew it was about outer space and came from the movie,  The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty but couldn't quite remember who sang the song... was it The Beatles...maybe another rock group? I looked up the soundtrack and of course, it was the song, Ground Control To Major Tom!

Now my question is...how did my mind go from Phone Booth to London to Aviator Hat to David Bowie To Major Tom? Like daydreaming, I guess, looking through kits and images takes me from one memory to another which quickly feeds my wild imagination and takes me to another world waiting to be explored!!!!

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still.
                                     ...David Bowie

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.
Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.
It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of the telescope.
Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities!

TRAIN TRACKS

Remembrance

When I saw the theme for this week, I thought of WWII and the Holocaust. I wanted to create a piece of art as a tribute to the brave souls that endured the deplorable conditions of the death trains  headed to only one destination:  the concentration camps.  Upon leaving the train,  life or death was decided with a flick of a finger.

Early summer 1944 was the apex of the deportation of Hungarian Jewry. For this purpose a special rail line was extended from the railway station outside the camp to a ramp inside Auschwitz. Many of the photos in the album were taken on the ramp. The Jews then went through a selection process, carried out by SS doctors and wardens. Those considered fit for work were sent into the camp, where they were registered, deloused and distributed to the barracks. The rest were sent to the gas chambers. They were gassed under the guise of a harmless shower, their bodies were cremated and the ashes were strewn in a nearby swamp. The Nazis not only ruthlessly exploited the labor of those they did not kill immediately, they also looted the belongings the Jews brought with them. Even gold fillings were extracted from the mouths of the dead by a special detachment of inmates.

I have posted the traditional Jewish Mourners Prayer for the 6 million lives that were extinguished by the brutal hatred and injustice of one nation.

TRANSLATION OF THE  KADDISH

May the great Name of God be exalted and sanctified, throughout the world, which he has created according to his will. May his Kingship be established in your lifetime and in your days, and in the lifetime of the entire household of Israel, swiftly and in the near future; and say, Amen.

May his great name be blessed, forever and ever.

Blessed, praised, glorified, exalted, extolled, honored elevated and lauded be the Name of the holy one, Blessed is he- above and beyond any blessings and hymns, Praises and consolations which are uttered in the world; and say Amen. May there be abundant peace from Heaven, and life, upon us and upon all Israel; and say, Amen.

He who makes peace in his high holy places, may he bring peace upon us, and upon all Israel; and say Amen.

Digital Dreamers Challenge

MAILBOXES

At the beginning of summer  my PC  froze up like a block of ice!  I'm pretty sure the hard drive is fried!  I am economy shopping for a new one but the sad fact is that  I haven't really been inspired to create any digital art!  When talking to Patti about my dilemma, she urged me to join everyone this week for the new theme, "Mailboxes"!  We also talked about the increase in the number of digital artists participating in the weekly challenges and the amazing art work they have been creating!!  Patti began to tell me about some of the themes I had missed and as she always does, inspired me to get busy and create something to post for this week's challenge!

I started thinking of something right away to create and since I am using my son's laptop to check my email... why not join in the challenge and get my digital groove back on except for one thing...my son  has laid  down the law...
absolutely no downloading of ANYTHING
NOTHING---NADA to his files!!!
Does that kid know me or what?

Past experience has taught him to be cautious when loaning his tech toys to me or he could be stuck deleting stock photos, digital art  kits and clip art  from his folders for weeks because I have innocently saved everything I see (within reason that is free and has no copyright issues) and why not? It's all eye candy anyway just waiting to lure me in...I have no self control!

The no downloading rule also means I have no access to my PSE!!!!  BUT...not a problem because there are several unique photo editing sites that I have found that offer simple but amazing tools that are easy to use but also keep your creative juices  flowing!

I used Picmonkey today but have also used Fotoflexer, Gimp, and Lunapic in the past and they all worked great for me!  They might not have all of the bells and  whistles of PSE but as long as I can create something  and have fun at the same time...then hey...it's all good and it beats the alternative...cleaning house for the rest of the all day!!

Here is my version of "Mailbox"!!!
Thank you, Patti, for the inspiration!

If you're in the mood to create some digital art then please stop by Digital Whisper and join us!!!!

P.S.  Jonathan...do not worry!!! I am deleting the stock photo (yeah...that's right...  one) as soon as I finish this post!

The Courage To Take Flight!

Now Is The Time...Take Flight!!!

 As 2015 approaches,
I wish for all Digital Dreamers everywhere,
a year FULL of  BIG surprises.
Be GENTLE with yourself but be
FIERCE with your TALENT and skill!.
Know your limit and then
PUSH hard to SURPASS it.
Use COLORS that SPEAK in
LOUD tones and SOFT whispers...
and in EVERYTHING you do!
May windows swing OPEN
when all doors are closed....

May you be BLESSED with CURIOSITY
and ALLOW it to ROMP freely
 in your IMAGINATION and DREAMS.
Always, always, always BE OPEN
to accept the limitless POSSIBILITIES
that LIFE holds for you!

Remember... TALENT is a VERB!
You will not KNOW you have WINGS
until you learn to FLY!
UNLEASH the ARTIST
and without looking down...
take FLIGHT and SOAR!
