So Artful Challenge

I'm late!! Very late!!

I spent more time on this challenge then I meant to,

 but it is finished and soon will be posted at So Artful Challenge!! 

I had so many ideas on how I wanted

to do this challenge and worked on a

 few possibilities but the art work just wasn't

coming through like I wanted it to! 

 

So today, I started out with the first idea I had

 (which is the one you should always stick with) 

and finally it started to come together! 

This sweet, spring image was
our theme for  this week! 
 

I wanted to have some "sweet tiny things"

tucked away and hidden among the branches,

so at first, when you look at my entry,  

you do not see them right away

but as you keep looking,

you will start to see what is 

peeking out of the leaves and cherry blossoms! 

So this is my interpretation of

Theme Thursday Challenge

The Theme for

Theme Thurday

is Flowers!

Sounds simple enough,  doesn't it?

Easy theme, pretty flowers, add a vintage image.

Done! Right! Wrong!! 

Remember, I don't do simple!

So here it is, 10:15 p.m., and I am just

 now turning in my entry for this challenge!

It is late!   Very late!

I got so carried away with this entr

 that I lost all track of time!

 You see, I went visiting today and found a

 new site with free vintage images:

 Scrapologie had all of these sweet little vintage Valentines

 posted and pictures of all of the Valentine  "pretties" that she had made! 

As I scrolled down further, I saw the perfect image

for this challenge and left her a message!

 I skipped on over to the next site: 

http://www.freevintageimages.com/

and saw three more images and

decided that enough was enough ! 

It was time to get to work!

So one idea led to another and another and another...

(You know how it is)

And...Voila!

I finished! 

  I am glad that I took the extra time to go ahead and

follow my creative instincts

because I pushed the envelope a bit today

and learned a thing or two and am

really proud of the piece of art I made!

How I made the "Flowers"  Entry:

Here is the image that I got from Scrapologie:

Isn't she gorgeous?

Aned already a flower girl with those

sequin flowers on her dress!

These images came from Free vintage Images!

Now see how each picture looks like it is turning back a page

to view what is going on outside,

like an actual window in a storybook!

  I took the first two bird images and

cut the nature scene away

from the white paper edge and  

glued them to 2 pieces of thick cardboard, 

curling them a bit as they dried.

Then I cut away the scene from the 3rd bird image

 and glued it to a 5 x 5 inch  of cardboard. 

 I glued emphora across the rest of the cardboard

and then added my vintage image of my flower girl!

I took a hole punch and punched five holes

 down the side of the two pages,

making sure the holes matched each other in length.

Then I matched each page where I wanted

it fastend to the cardboard square.

I punched 5 more holes (for each page)

I wired the 2nd page to the cardboard.

I decided to use some gold satin material (that I had stashed )

and cut it in (5)  12 inch long,  thin strips.

 I pull and twistied the entire length of each strip to

allow the edges to start unraveling!

I placed the first page adjacent to the five holes

 I had punched on the cardboard

 and pulled one strip of satin through the first 2 holes.

 I tied the first strip in a double knot to  secure the first page.

I repeated the same procedure 4 more times 

 to secure the front page to the cardboard square!

I added  some glitter and  flowers and she was done! 

Now it really looks like the pages are curled back,
  as if we have pulled back a curtain to catch a glimspe of this Vintage Lady,  
as she spends her first day of Spring,
 picking flowers and putting them in her hair!

My First Collage Obsessions Challenge Entry!

Finally! 

I made my first piece
of Art Work for

Elegia's and Itkupilli's
Brand New Challenge:

     Collage Obsessions!

I love these ladies and all of the

fantastic digital art work that they create!

I have been a fan of both ladies 
from the very beginning of my first blog!  

In fact,  the very first background that I used for

"Miss Anne's Vintage Art"

was from Elegia's delightful backgrounds

that she so generously makes and offers for free!  

 I am still using  Itkupilli's beautiful

"Victorian Ladies" background

at my knitting blog, Miss Anne's Lace! 

Itkupilli is also very generous  and

designs her own fabulous backgrounds 

and offers them for free, too! 

So, when  I saw that they were going

 to do a Challenge together,

 I was so excited!

They are both so enormously talented!

Each lady has that *spark of imagintaion*

that it takes to host a great challenge!

What a great adventure this would be!

 I was on board and ready to be inspired!!

I really wanted to join in on

the week of the 1st Theme,

but there was just too much going on

and I ran out of time!!   

Then came the 2nd and 3rd Theme!

  I  was still running so far behind,

I couldn't catch up,

no matter how hard I tried!

 Then the 4th  theme started last Monday!

 I was determined! 

  I would have an entry! 

So... I did make a really nice collage 

along with a little (tiny) scrapbook that I sewed  together 

and glued  to the surface of one of the images I used!

BUT.....

my scanner ran out of ink and refused to scan the collage

that I had worked so hard to make!

I hurried to try to make something digital

 but was not really pleased with the outcome!

I really liked the other collage  better!

Oh, well...

such is life!!!

So...

even if it is late...

Here is my entry ...

So Artful Challenge

The Theme this week for

So Artful Challenge

 was Mardi Gras! 

I found some really old vintage pictures

of men and women dressed up in

"Carnival Fair" with some very

unusual masks on their faces. 

I didn't know that in the early 1900"s,

 instead of wearing the ornate masks

that they wear today,

they wore hoods that covered

their whole head and face 

during Mardi Gras week!  

I looked up the history of Mardi Gras and was

very surprised to find out that it has been

taking place since the late 1700's!

When I first started working with this theme,

 I found myself making a rather large collage,

 (at least 8 x 8 inches)!

 As I worked , I thought  it would make a

great mini-book cover

 if I wanted to return to it someday

and add a few pages to make a

Nostalgic History of  a

"Vintage"  Mardi  Gras!

I wantd to make some necklaces out of the tiny beads

I use when I am knitting a beaded lace shawl pattern

but... I can always add them later!

I really wanted a more festive look with the
 traditional bright colors but...
I just can't do anything modern anymore !

If it looks distressed, tired, old,
and needs to be thrown away

then it goes into  my "collection"! 

I am all-vintage now!

Sunday Postcard Art Challenge

This week's Theme was

 "Phrenology"!

 A very interesting subject! 

 I was not familiar with the terminology of

this image until I looked up the definition

and then...the lightbulb actually

switched on inside of my head!

Of course, I have seen these diagrams

for years, but never really knew what the 

 scientific and historical meaning  was

behind the image! Now that I am intrigued,

I plan  to do more research  on the topic!

 Imagine, without the aide of x-ray machines,

how scientist and doctors could actually

interpret the connection between  

our emotions in correlation

to the different parts of our brain!

Pretty heavy stuff!!

   Very interesting indeed!

So here is my interpretation for "Phrenology"!

And, by the way, isn't it a great feeling to learn something new!?!
